Mountain Guide Professional Certification Program
Program Genesis
Nepal lacked a standardized professional certification for mountain guides meeting international benchmarks. AMRC was commissioned to design a certification program aligned with IFMGA framework.
Curriculum
The program spans four levels from trekking guide to high-altitude expedition leader, covering navigation, weather forecasting, avalanche safety, high-altitude physiology, rescue operations, and environmental stewardship.
Implementation
The pilot program trained 60 guides across two cohorts with field training in the Langtang, Annapurna, and Khumbu regions. International instructors from France, Switzerland, and New Zealand served as co-trainers.
Recognition
The program has received provisional IFMGA recognition and NMA endorsement, now being scaled to train 200 guides annually.
