High-Altitude Training Program for Mountain Guides
Program Overview
AMRC Research, in partnership with the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), has developed a comprehensive training curriculum for high-altitude mountain guides addressing the critical gap in professional development for guides who lead expeditions above 6,000 meters.
Curriculum
The 30-day intensive program covers advanced weather interpretation, crevasse rescue techniques, high-altitude medicine, environmental minimum-impact practices, and client communication skills.
Impact
Since inception, 120 guides have completed the training. Preliminary data shows a 45% reduction in altitude-related incidents among certified guides compared to the national average.
Looking Ahead
AMRC plans to expand the program to include specialized modules for different mountain regions and is developing an online refresher course for between seasons.
